Vampire:
Vampires are magically reanimated corpses, inhabited by the spirit of the deceased, that feed and survive on the blood of the living, especially on human blood, and can transform humans into more of their kind. To transform others into a vampire, a human must die with vampire blood in their system. Vampires can only be killed with a wooden steak or beheading. Their blood can heal anyone. A vampire must be invited into another person's home and can not go out into the sun without a daylight ring made by a witch.

Werewolf:
Werewolves are a formerly near-extinct supernatural species of individuals who unwillingly transform into fearsome and extremely hostile wolves on the night of the full moon. Even in their human form, werewolves possess superhuman physical prowess, but not to the same level as a vampire and not as powerful as the abilities they have on a full moon. These creatures are the most dangerous enemies of vampires, due to their bite, which is lethal to them. Werewolves are also hardwired to kill vampires on sight in their wolf form, though they still hunt human prey whenever there are no vampires to kill. To trigger the werewolf gene you must kill a human. Then on the next full moon they go through terrible pain to transform.
Another form of werewolf is the kind that is bitten by an alpha to turn. Most of these werewolves do not turn fully into a wolf, only half way. There are three types of these wolves, Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Alpha is the highest up and they run the pack, being able to turn humans into werewolves with their bite. Betas are the middle group. They obey the alpha and stay with him/her. An omega is the lowest of the pack. They are the lone wolves and without a pack, a werewolf is weaker.

Hybrid:
A hybrid is a cross between a vampire and a werewolf. A Werewolf-Vampire hybrid are potentially one of the most powerful pseudo-undead creatures, having strengths and characteristics of both vampires and werewolves. Hybrids possess both the strengths and some of the weaknesses of their parent races, along with powerful attributes unique to themselves alone due to their combined heritage, like day-walking and being able to turn into a wolf form without the Full Moon's influence. To become a vampire-werewolf hybrid, a werewolf must have either Klaus or Hope's blood in its system and be killed to begin transition. It is unknown lf normal vampire blood will Sire a triggered werewolf into a Hybrid but its unlikely. The transition will be successful only if the wolf completes his/her transition by drinking the doppelgänger's blood, Hope Mikaelson's blood works the same way as a doppelgänger's.

Witch/Warlock:
A witch is a man or woman with the power to affect change by magical means.The Balance of Nature is a spiritual belief system based around the observance of the Earth and reverence of Mother Nature. The goal of many witches is to honor the design of nature and to maintain balance within the natural world. The origin of witchcraft remains unknown, however it is known that witches have existed for many centuries passing down their knowledge and skills through generations of family lines. Contrary to popular belief, witches do not receive their powers from demons, nor do they worship the devil. Instead, witches consider themselves "The Servants of Nature", as they make it their duty to maintain balance within the world.

Doppelgänger:
Doppelgängers are a supernatural occurance that came as result of Silas and Amara becoming true immortals. Their purpose is to maintain the natural balance by dying in place of their immortal progenitors, and for this reason, doppelgängers have existed for 2,000 years continuously being born and dying.

Humans:
Humans are mortal beings characterized by their inability to practice magical or supernatural powers. Most humans do not know of the supernatural world around them. As the human race repletes the majority of the Earth’s population, they are commonly noted for their desire to influence and understand the environment by seeking to explain and manipulate phenomena through mythology, philosophy, religion, and science.

Kitsune:
Kitsune are described as intelligent beings and as possessing magical abilities that increase with their age and wisdom, every 100 years they get a tail, becoming more powerful, and when they reach nine tails (Kyuubi no Kitsune), they become demi-gods, reaching omniscience and almost omnipotency. Foremost among these is the ability to assume a human form. While some folktales speak of kitsune employing this ability to trick others as foxes in folklore often do other stories portray them as faithful guardians, friends, lovers and wives. The folklore says they are afraid of dogs, running away every time they see one.

Druids/Darach:
Druid-Legend has it that Lycaon, who insulted Zeus by trying to feed him human flesh, was turned into a wolf. He sought out the druids for help changing back, because druids were said to know how to shape-shift.
 The druids were unable to remove Zeus's curse, but they could teach Lycaon and his followers how to shift between forms. Ever since, the druids have served as wise counsel for werewolves. The werewolves refer to them as emissaries, because they keep them in touch with humanity.
 Druidic magic is a combination of herbalism and force of will. Mountain ash can create a barrier against werewolves, but only if the person laying the circle believes that it will work.

Darach: A darach is an evil druid. The word literally means "dark oak."

Banshee:
Banshees are spirits, omens of death. They experience and envisualize premonitions of possible, impending, but affirmative death from hearing supernatural transmissions on a plane of the universe only they can access.A banshee's Scream can only be heard by beings with a supernatural sense of hearing. They can be heard from miles away. Banshees Scream when they are experiencing a premonition of death.A banshee's power largely manifests as the ability to hear. They hear whispers or other particular noises in their heads that only they can receive and translate. The whispers they hear are the whispers of their own kind.

Kanima:
The Kanima is a shapeshifter, but isn't a natural species like a werewolf. The transformation into a Kanima is a mutation of a shapeshifter's gene, they are abominations. The Kanima's sole purpose is to be an instrument of vengeance. It seeks out a Master, one of whom desires revenge upon others. This Master will then use the shapeshifter to carry out his retribution, to kill those the Master perceives as murderers.
